No blog should be naked

And so here is my first post.  Proper ramblings about films will come soon, but for now, here is some perspective (albeit warped) as to my taste in film.  This may help the interwebs understand why i speak the way I speak.

Favorite films: Now this is a loaded topic.  I am fond of so many films across so many genres that it is hard to nail down.  Here are few ramblings:
  • James Cameron's The Abyss (1989) receives a score of 5/5 Tinned Peaches
    • Oh, and this refers ONLY to the special edition that isn't hideously chopped to remove the powerful goodness contained therein.
    • Why?
      • Quality sci-fi, great character development, very relate-able struggles, believable antagonist (Michael Biehn), powerfully emotional ups and downs.  A film every sci-fi goofball should see.
    • Other films you may like:
  • John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China (1986)  receives a score of 5/5 Tinned Peaches
    • Why?
      • It just kicks SO MUCH A**!
      • Jack Burton (played by Kurt Russell) is just about the best macho wannabe hero character ever written into a film.
      • This film is a fresh take on fantasy and martial arts all together with tons of memorable quotes and well written comic relief.
    • Other films you may like:

  • Stephen Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) receives a score of 5/5 Tinned Peaches
    • Why?
      • The amazing screenplay combines nazi-whooping, treasure hunting, and a down-to-earth hero who takes a solid beating.
      • This film is just about the perfect combination of character development, good vs evil, and big screen adventure.
      • We'll give the film a pass on the intentional, but cheesy "face melting" scene at the end.
    • Other films you may like:

  • Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon (1975) receives a score of 5/5 Tinned Peaches
    • Why?
      • Kubrick brings this period piece absolutely alive, using cinematography that genuinely captures the spirit, color and lighting and pace of life, while using powerful music to dramatically highlight the highs and lows of Ryan O'Neal's character through his life.  Powerful.
    • Other films you may like:

  • Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982) receives a score of 5/5 Tinned Peaches
    • Why?
      • This film re-invented thinking about the future.  It brought to life forward-thinking problems of modern society, and did it in a believable story and great character development.
    • Other films you may like:

  • Terry Gilliam's Twelve Monkeys (1995) receives a score of 5/5 Tinned Peaches
    • Why?
      • Yet another incredibly gritty sci-fi film that visualizes the harsh and beaten-down reality of a world gone to crap.  The time-jumping process takes it toll on Bruce Willis' character drawing curious thoughts about paranoia as a result of being part of, or a savior of, a global devestation.  Brad Pitt performs brilliantly, some of his best work, IMHO.

Wow, the list could easily go on for a LONG time, so let me cap it here for now.  I may add more soon :)  Have a fave that you think may be on my list but not on this sheet?  Hit me up here or on twitter @aschwabe
